导言
Introduction

Robert ManicomWe are a friendly and formal school of Chinese Kung Fu. All our Teachers, Disciples and Students are attitude free and friendly, we teach Traditional Kung Fu to good hearted people. Evil " I'm Gonna Break your legs" people are not welcome. We offer gradings, which includes a rank belt and a certificate, but doing gradings is not compulsory. Our Kungfu Style, Ming Kung Fu, is a combination of Wudang, Chen and Yang Chinese Family styles. We offer Group and Private one-on-one classes, teaching indoors and outdoors. We train in three classes: Dragon Class (Standard general all round), Tiger Class (Fighting Class) & Crane Class (Mental Development), Only the Dragon Class is compulsory. Our school teaches a comprehensive and complete Internal Martial Art based on the Yin Yang Daoist Martial Art. The student starts with Slow Yang Taiji, then through Chen Taiji & Chen Weapons, then moves gradually into the Fast Wudang Sets. Even though we teach as the traditional Wudang, in a group class, we will push those who pactice more, those who listen more, those who are more disciplined and those who WANT more. The more the student mentally and physically wants to grow the more we push and help that student. This, we have found, is a better method as some students like the slow and timeous journey, yet others want to work hard and achieve more and more. Our classes cater for both groups of students. Our Journey Starts with PURE Taiji (TaiChi) then moves into the Fist Sets of Wudang. Because the Wudang fist sets are Internal Martial Art; the concepts of both the Taiji and the Fist Sets are the same. Students can do Ming Kung Fu as a Pure Traditional Art or enter into the South African Kungfu (Wushu) Championships held by the S.A.W.F. South African Wushu Federation, which is registered with IWuF International Wushu Federation and SASCOC South African Olympic Committee. Two of our instructors are Qualified Judges of Taolu on National Level, Both are "B" and "C" Grade qualified, and both have Judged Kung Fu at every South African Championship, since 2006.

Grading & Belt System
Robert ManicomTraditionally, Chinese Martial arts never used a grading or belt system (neither did any of the other martial arts styles). The student used to study in the school until the Teacher says he is ready to teach himself, this could be years and years. This has unfortunately made things difficult as there has not been a standard method of testing and some nasty teachers have taken advantage of that system, to keep students back from teaching and thus preventing them from opening schools and thus "stealing students".

As time modernises things many Chinese schools have followed the method of setting a standard and when a student can, by method of test, pass that standard he is then awarded a belt and certificate signifying he is on a certain level. This is a great method as it uses a planned and thus tested standard, and when teaching in groups it is also easier for instructors to help students when he can quickly see what level the student is on. It is also a good system as the student used to do kungfu till his master says move on, and now he has a goal written down and standardised, a belt and certificate which is a great motivator. Not the best motivator as students should study the art because they want to develop as people, not get awards, but as we are human, belt and certificate motivators WORK, whether we like the system or not. Even the Chinese Governing bodies now "grade" the students into 9 different catergories and issue certificates for this and that. So Ming Kung Fu has adopted this Belt System and has seen how it motivates students. Grading is not compulsory, and if you are dead against belts and certificates, donate the belt and burn the certificate, as when a student is on a certain level of skill, a belt and a certificate will not make a difference, it merely is a marker, a nice goal oriented and clearly defined marker. The belt system has also worked well with the western method of teaching and study, which is plan and strategise goals and objectives, as to the traditional system of stand in the class and do over and over until oneday you might get it right.

We offer GRADING in the TRADITIONAL GRADING as well as Competitive SPORT Wushu Kungfu.
